As a teaching artist, I’ve developed lesson plans for and facilitated introductory and advanced poetry workshops on craft, Black liberation movements, and self-expression with schools & organizations across the east coast, at both the collegiate and K-12 level.
I also provide professional development training for K-12 educators on poetry as a teaching tool in both STEM and the humanities.
I’ve had the honor of editing two (2) chapbooks of student work – River Poems by the third graders at the Campus School at Smith College, and Poetry by Yesterday’s Children for Tomorrow’s Adults, by the Children’s Poetry Workshop with Write the World.

River poems
The third-graders at The Campus School had spent a year studying the science of rivers, then worked for a semester with Rodrigues-Sherley on turning their scientific observations and personal experiences into poems. In the end, each poet received a chapbook featuring the poems and broadsides they created over the course of the workshop.

Poetry by yesterday's children for tomorrows adults
We all know and love esteemed children’s book authors, but have you ever wondered what it takes to write poetry for children? In this workshop with Write the World, students worked together to explore the art of writing poetry for young people while creating “chapbooks for children,” compilations of poetry to be share with elementary school readers and writers.
